About/Contact
Palmertown Press is a small publishing company operated by Michael Whittlesey in La Porte City, Iowa.
Mike’s love for reading and writing began at an early age, spurred on by Library Media Specialist Rita Wilson while attending elementary school at Travis Air Force Base. His introduction to journalism came as a freshman in high school, where he began to learn the skills of news writing and graphic design that would serve him well in later years.
Following high school, Mike earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education at Mount Mercy College and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Management from Emporia State University, before working as a teacher, technology facilitator and elementary school principal.
In 2002, Mike and his wife, Jane, bought their hometown newspaper, The Progress Review. As Editor and Publisher, Mike and his staff earned dozens of state awards over the next 18 years, building a reputation as one of the top small-town newspapers in the state of Iowa.
He and his wife live in La Porte City, Iowa, where they are constantly entertained by three cats (Alegria, Gracie and Chloe) and a dog (Chica Sue).
